Important Hardware Note: It is advisable to use iPads from the 2018 models onward, specifically those with screen sizes ranging from 9.7 to 11 inches. Data obtained from iPad PRO models with 12.9 inches or iPads Mini with 8.3 inches have not yet undergone validation.
The NIH Toolbox® V3 represents a comprehensive suite of performance and self-report measures aimed at evaluating cognitive, emotional, motor, and sensory functions across a wide age range of 3 to 85 years. It is designed explicitly for both research and clinical applications. The initial NIH Toolbox was crafted by a collaborative effort of over 250 scientists over a span of six years, supported by the 15 institutes of the National Institutes of Health through the NIH Neuroscience Blueprint. This latest iteration, NIH Toolbox® V3, features optimized workflows and user interfaces for more than 50 assessments that can function independently or as components of a full assessment battery. With the NIH Toolbox® V3 application, researchers can utilize a standardized metric for functional assessment, facilitating the integration of data across different measures, which is critical when dealing with large and diverse participant groups.
Upon acquiring this application, users will also gain access to selected Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) tests.
Many features of the NIH Toolbox® are accessible without a subscription; however, recording assessment responses and viewing or exporting results necessitate an active subscription. To access the complete functionality within NIH Toolbox®, users are encouraged to subscribe to a one-year plan, available for purchase within the app for a maximum of ten iPads. Subscriptions will renew automatically unless auto-renewal is disabled at least 24 hours prior to the end of the current subscription cycle.
A free trial is available for users to explore the NIH Toolbox V3 application; however, please note that data will not be saved and results cannot be generated during this trial period. If a subscription is purchased, the free trial period will be forfeited. Subscription management can be accomplished via Apple Account Settings following purchase.
The cancellation of any current paid subscription will be subject to Apple’s policies.
All essential content required for administering NIH Toolbox® assessments is integrated into the app; however, certain tests may necessitate additional hardware or materials. Users can establish a free account at www.NIHToolbox.org to access the NIH Toolbox® V3 Administration Manual, Technical Manuals, supplemental resources, and a list of relevant publications.
Upon purchasing this app, tests within the Emotion, Motor, and Sensation domains will be immediately accessible. Conversely, assessments in the Cognition domain require successful completion of an additional approval process via www.NIHToolbox.org. This approval is included within the subscription cost with no extra purchase needed. Generally, approval is granted to qualified researchers and clinicians trained in neuropsychological testing. For further inquiries about the approval process, contact [email protected].
Important information regarding intended use and data security:
